Wondering what’s with Ranidel de Ocampo that made him the standout and be considered as the hero’s look-alike? Is it the moustache or the beard? Maybe it’s the posture or the complexion of the skin? Or rather their beliefs and philosophies in life.
Born in the same town as the alleged man behind the assassination of Gen. Luna, De Ocampo embodies the same principle as that of the revolutionary general. They are both ready to give their lives for their country. Gen. Luna died fighting for our country’s freedom.
No matter who and what obstacles were laid down on his path, for him, there is no greater glory than seeing his beloved country’s freedom against oppression and tyrants. RDO, in his own ways on this modern times, also showed the same passion as that of Luna. In his team’s recent basketball game match with the Kuwaiti in China, he proved that he is not just ready to win the game for his country, but also to defend his teammates against that of the other team.
"Kahit anong mangyari, s'yempre kailangan protektahan ko 'yung mga teammate ko,” (whatever happens, I have to protect my team mates) said De Ocampo.
It may be just a game of basketball for others, but this physical sport needs not just the mind and stamina but also a heart. Just like in the fight of Gen. Luna, you should have the strategy in way, you should also be wise. You should be physically fit to endure the hardships. And most of all, you have to have your heart in it.
General Antonio Luna and Ranidel De Ocampo maybe have facial similarities, but they have much more in common, that is what’s in their hearts, and that is to defend the Philippines.. Ikaw, kalookalike mo din ba si luna? Just what the greatest general the Philippines had said, “bayan o sarili? Mamili ka?” We are Filipinos, and we must also resemble to that of General Antonio Luna.
